October saw the 20th anniversary of Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition (also known as MCE). It was a version of Windows XP that was dedicated to media—hence the name—and kept going as a standalone offshoot until 2005, before Windows Media Center was absorbed into future OS’s and was discontinued in Windows 10.
Windows XP Media Center Edition had a variety of exclusive features but also some frustrating restrictions as Tech Tangents examined.
