T2 the Tea Bot makes the perfect brew in the perfect time

No two cups of tea are ever the same but T2 the Tea Bot brews your cuppa for the optimum length and taste.

How do you like your tea? How long should you brew it for? These questions have conjured up different answers for centuries. But now we have a robot to answer them for us. Its name is T2 the Tea Bot (formerly T^2 and T2 but not to be confused with T2 Tea) and it’s a simple little robot.

The creators of T2 the Tea Bot are Tinkershops, a pair of engineers from Oakland, CA. The purpose of the bot is to “help the user brew their tea to the recommended brewing time”. And how long is that? Well, that depends on the type of tea you’re brewing. T2 comes with an ESP8266 board, a dedicated web server, and a servo motor.

The tea maker can log into the local network from their mobile browser and access the different tea brewing selections. The menus are served with HTML and CSS to add some uniqueness and colour (because nobody wants grey tea).

The types of tea offered are:

  • Black tea
  • Green tea
  • White tea
  • Herbal tea

A lot went into the T2 project, from hardware to software design and a lot of source code. According to Hackaday, the motor draws a small enough current to make simultaneous brews – perfect for an office environment.

You can watch the video below to see how it works. I’d love to try T^2 but it wouldn’t replace me, at least not in this form.
