The Internet is more than old enough to drink and, given some of its memes, it’s had way too much already. But back in 1996, it was purer and only used by those with computers and the patience to wait for the modem to connect. This video looks at how the internet and the World Wide Web worked 21 years ago. The two terms are interchangeable now but this video makes sure to describe the subtle differences – via a hint of sexism. You also get to hear about things like “America Online” aka AOL, ARPANET, and the “freeness” of downloading files.
The video is about an hour long so strap in for that nostalgic trip down read access memory lane.
