Google celebrates Mária Telkes in its latest Doodle

Google announced its latest Doodle today, in celebration of Hungarian-American biophysicist Mária Telkes on what would have been her 122nd birthday. Born in Budapest in 1900, she moved to the US in 1925 to work as a biophysicist for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation before joining MIT in 1937 where she began specialising in solar energy. Her pioneering efforts in solar thermal storage systems, earnt her the nickname “The Sun Queen“.

“Sunlight will be used as a source of energy sooner or later. Why wait?”
