Prime Newtons made a video last year about something I’d not heard of before: tetration. The mathematical operation where you raise a number b to powers of itself x times. There isn’t a standardised notation but a common one is xb. In the case of the video thumbnail, ³2, it would be:
2 to the power of 2 to the power of 2 to the power of 2, such that 3 copies of 2 are iterated via exponentiation. I get it in my head but it’s hard to explain and thankfully the video does that all for me. But when would you use it? Well… you wouldn’t, in any real-world cases. And that’s why you won’t have learnt about it in school (at least in any meaningful way).
