Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard proposed by Jim Kardach in 1997. It allows short-range data exchange between devices by using radio waves to create personal area networks (or PANs).
A key advantage of Bluetooth is the relative convenience of sharing files and streaming audio without cables, however it isn’t without its flaws due to its short range and security issues.
Bluetooth had its heyday in the early-to-mid 00s with a growing culture of Bluetooth headsets for people on the go with their mobile phones. Those devices also allowed for new tech such as mp3 files for music and ringtones, meaning people could exchange them like never before.
