I found this video of a group of Afghan men lead by Ali Rahimi, a man of humble origins
according to the video. It seems that he came from a life of hardship but he overcame that to repair bikes and engines and teach kids in his community to do the same. I’ve never seen an engine restoration video (unless you count episodes of Wheeler Dealers when Ed China was on it) so watching them clean all the parts and fix up the pistons and whatnot was awesome.
Without sounding too liberal, it reminded me of how Black and brown people are so often described as coming from “primitive cultures” and how that is racist nonsense.
